  1. In the article it talked about two reasons why you should learn math and why we need it in the real world. I really liked the first point on why we should actually take the time to learn the stuff like geometry, algebra, trig, exc... The author of the article talked about in the first point how if we take the time to learn all this math stuff now, when we are confronted with it later in life, (which we will be), then we won't have to worry or have to learn new and confusing things 10 years from now

    1. exactly; it's better to learn it now, rather than relearn it later.

    2. I agree. Everything that I will do once I graduate high school will be involving math for my job.

    3. Yes, I also agree, I know that everything we learn in our math classes we will use at some time in our life. We also may need to know some of the these things we learn for future jobs and collage.

  2. I think that's a great point to make in the article. Many different areas of study reqipuire a basic understanding of a lot of the math you learned i high school. It's great that it pointed this out because a lot of people zone out in math class(not a good thing!).

    1. I agree, in many different areas in your life, you are going to need to use math in your daily life. "The idea here is that if you learn math now, then when you're confronted with math later in life" I like that statement because it is completely true.

    2. I also think is is great to know math now rather than later because you are a lot better off and things would be easier.

    3. Yeah almost everything now-a-days involves some form of math.

  3. I thought this article was really interesting because many times, I have wondered the same thing. I thought it was really cool because my discover project is on the Fibonacci sequence (which is mentioned in the article) and since I've been learning more about that particular sequence, I have been seeing the golden spiral all around me, which I would not have if I hadn't learned about it in math. Honestly, math just shows me the glory of God because He incorporated it into everything around us. I thought this article had some pretty good reasons why it's important to learn and study math.

    1. I agree with you also, Since I too am working on the Fibonacci Number Sequence Discovery project, it has been amazing to see the patter God has created to give us. It is amazing to see His sovereignty in math and that we are able to learn about His awesome creation

  4. I like how this article talks about the practical uses of math in the future. I thought it was interesting how math was compared to a game that starts with basic rules and gets more complicated. I think that looking at different math classes this way makes sense, because it shows how they all tie together. This article makes a very good point when it talks about how we should be prepared by learning as much math as possible now, since in most jobs, math often comes up. I think this was an interesting article and the points it made were important to think about for sure.

    1. I think that is a really good point. I like how math can be really simple, but you can also expound on it a lot and make it more difficult or complicated, just like making new rules to a game.

      Delete
    2. I like how you mentioned that they all tied together. Sometimes we all just view math as a few col, cut-and-dry rules instead of alooking at how math all interconnects with one another.

  5. (this is Kelly) When I started reading the article, I was really sceptical, because the author gives us the same cliche answer that I always get, "You're gonna need it latter" This statement may be true, but I think people should be able to come up with a different answer for that question. As I kept on reading, the article got kinda interesting I really like how the author talks about math as something that can be thought about practically instead of just on paper.

    1. Teachers are always saying how useful this stuff will be later in life and how we'll need it later, and I was thinking the exact same thing you were at the start. However, I actually enjoyed this article after I got past the beginning and more towards the middle. It really helped me look at math in a different point of view. Really cool!

    2. I also realized how right those teachers are by reading this!!!

  6. This article gave me a new perspective on math as a whole. I always think of my future job as something that will require no math. I've always thought that if i need a formula to figure out something, i will always have some way of looking it up. However, this article almost made me think of a math as a creative art. Math is a set of constants, but you can mess around and find new ways to come up with the same thing based on your preference.

    1. I totally agree. When math gets confusing or i just dont understand something, i sometimes wish that it didn't exist. But then I have to remind myself that almost everything in this world is based off of some form of math.

    2. I agree if you don't think of math as a chore, it can be very interesting. It is better to learn it now than play catch up later.

  7. This article brings out a great point on how you should treat and respect math. I learned that the more you know in math the better you are off in the future. This article also reflects on how you should prepare for math and pay attention. - By Ben Devaney

    1. I agree, math deserves total respect. Without math we couldn't have half of the things we have today. Take a computer for example; computers require wiring, circuitry, and a "brain." People need to know how to make those things perfectly in order for them to function correctly.

      Delete
  8. Math is more than just putting numbers into a calculater. Mathematicians put an idea out there, set the parameters, and see what happens. The math we learn today, even though it seems impractical, is used in every day jobs. If you want to be an accountant, then you have to know algebra and apply some geometry to get the job done.

    1. I agree. I think sometimes we just blow off math because we don't think it will matter but someday we will have to use math in our jobs.

      Delete
    2. This is very true. We never know when the things that we learn in math will come in handy in our jobs. If we put the time and work in now, it will pay off in the long run.

  9. I thought this article had a lot of truth in it. You will come to use math every day in the real world, and we need to know how to do it so that we can apply it to our daily lives. I want to be an engineer when I get older and I need to use math every day in almost everything that I will do in my job. (I will be an architectural engineer.)

  10. I hope this article inspired many people, in doing math. A lot of people think that math is not important and that we will never need it in our lives. But we actually might need it later on, and will be regretting not doing so well in it.

  11. I thought it was very long and boring. The guy went on and on about how math is so "fun". I do agree with the main message of the article though.

  12. The second main point, i thought, was an excellent representation of how our God can do absolutely anything, even take two things (a spiral and a rectangle) you would never imagine to be related in any way and provide a big and shocking corellation.

  13. I agree with the author that we shouldn't approach math as a bunch of memorization, but as more than that. A lot of times things we do in life aren't fun because we come at them with the wrong mindset.

    1. Yes. Even when we think that math is tedious or not applicable, it still is regardless of what we think. It doesn't matter if we don't like it. Not learning it will just hurt us in the future when we have to use what we were supposed to learn in junior high and high school.

  14. I gree with this article as a lot of people think math is not important for the future but really we will be using math a lot when we are older no matter what our job will be

    1. Your agreement is right about other people not thinking math is important for the future. Like my comment said, I have come across the question if certain math taught to me was "needed" in my life. I'm glad there is that kind of math that I think I may not need though because I may actually end up needing it or I will just have more knowledge for a job when I grow up.

  15. Even if you don't think you would EVER get a job with math, there is a definite possibility that you may change your mind later in life. I think a lot of people (including myself) think that we may never have to deal with all these complex equations in our everyday lives, but as the author pointed out, learning math now will be a lot easier than later, because in reality, we will use it even if we don't think we will.

    1. I agree, even if your occupation doesn't have to do with math, you will still come across situations that math will help solve.

    2. Very true. Though you might not end up in a career that uses a lot of math, little bits of math can be hidden in almost all careers, as well as everyday life.

    3. It is true we will need math in the future to count our billions of dollar we also need math now. Math can be used for many this. One of them being very important is budgeting. This will help us be responciple even now

  16. I think math is important in peoples life. And this article is really good. Some people think we don't need math in our future life. But math is everywhere.

  17. I liked in the article how it taught you how important math is. it gave some real life examples of how we use math and how we will need to use math in the future. many of times we just sit thru math class thinking of how this will ever help us. reality check, IT DOES!!!! we use math every day and even if we don't use slope intercept form or the quadratic formula they are the building blocks to more complex math that we might one day use in our job.

  18. I think math is important to our lives. Even though we won't use everything we learned, we will come across situations in our future and what we learned in school will benefit us and help us in the situation. Whether the situation is in our occupation or just at the grocery store.

  19. This article made me view math differently. I have often wondered about when I will use math in life, and the article showed me. I really enjoyed the author's view about what math is, not just equations, but an exploration. Imagine if we all tried to think a little more like "Pat." What else would we learn about math?

    1. I agree, i think that we as a generation need to learn to stretch our brains and use our imaginations more. Students need to learn to actually value the information and opportunity of learning and exploring new concepts in order to solve common problems, or just for the sake of exploration in knowledge.

  20. This article points out a good point. Sometimes we feel that the math we learn in school is useless, but eventually later in life it will catch back up with us. Great article with a great point.

  21. Math is more than just numbers that we have to put together in order to pass a test. This article taught me that math has applications all over the place in the real world that we live in. No matter what your job is or what you want to be as an adult, that job will most likely include some aspect of math, whether it be simple math as a cashier or advanced math as an engineer.

  22. As I learn math in school I think to myself, wow i'll never use this in life. But this article made me understand and bring up a good point that we will use it later in life. so you might as well learn it now and not have to worry about it later. it could also help you with your future job

  24. This article helps people realize that math class isn't just a subject you can blow off and slack your whole way through. I think it would be a pretty bad feeling when you are confronted in a every day life situation and are asked to convert yards to centimeters and you forgot how to figure it out. Even though some parts of math may be boring or "not relevant" to you, you made find it useful in the future.

  25. The author brought up the reason most teachers will give students when we ask the reason for math, which is that students who learn math and the concepts behind it will benefit later on during college and ultimately our profession of choice. But what i most enjoyed was the other reason that students should study math: it helps us understand concepts and apply them to what we already know. The analogy the author gave was that math is kind of like a game, where you start with a few simple rules and then expand upon those rules to make new concepts and ways of solving problems.

  26. I like how Dr. Math explained how math we may not need in the future could still be useful to us. I have come across that question before as well and I'm glad I got a good explanation of the answer to it. I also like how Dr. Math used the example of 'Pat" because it comes to show that when people have curiosity in something useful, they can make a difference. I'm very glad that math can be useful even though we may not think about a certain math concept every day and that we humans have curiosity. Without curiosity,we would not discover.

  38. This article was very thought provoking. I struggle with having a good attitude about doing math because I think I will never use it. However, if you think about it how this writer does it is easier to do math because you know it has a purpose. Knowing that the things I am learning about in math will come in handy one day is encouraging. Even if I don't use the actual numbers and formulas, the problem solving skills and determination it takes to do math will be very useful in days to come
