The article, I believe, was very truthful, because we spend a lot of time doing other things that we could spend thinking about important things like what happened that day and evaluating everything you did and thinking about how you can do better instead of staring off into space.
ReplyDeletethis article proved that in this society many teens tend to zone out without noticing, I did this even while reading it. instead of letting that happen, the article suggests that training our minds and thought process is just as important and necessary as training our bodes for a sport.
ReplyDeleteThat is a good observation Laura!!!!
Delete1 day has not gone by that I haven't zoned out in some way probably not even an hour
DeleteThe article makes a very good point about zoning off into space. I think us, people in the world should try different strategies(the ones in the article)to try and help ourselves not to zone off. I also think we should try and evaluate ourselves,on how well we pay attention when others are speaking(such as a teacher).
ReplyDeleteI completely understand with you. like Laura said I started even spacing off when I was reading this, thinking about other things
Deletei strongly agree with you victor. its something we as humans need to work on.
DeleteI like how the article shares different strategies on how not to 'accidentally' doze off in your mind and how it tells the rest of your body to practically stop and do what your mind is doing [physically]. I also like how it says that we see things mostly in one perspective and not in multiple.
ReplyDeleteIn todays generation most people are not critical thinkers, due to our short attention span. This article gave great ways about how to become a critical thinker, such as when it said we need to redefine the way we look at things. I agreed that it will take a while for most people to aquire the ability to be a critical thinker though. I know that I zone out sometimes too, and I could really grow by following the steps suggested.
ReplyDeleteIt is so true that this generation people have trouble focusing. I agree that this article gives good advice on critical thinking
DeleteYea I agree! Because of our short attention span, {due to technology and other things that do not need that much attention} we don't apply our full attention to school and apply the learning process. In order to be successful, we all need to have a mind to body connection. In order to do the RIGHT things we need to THINK about the RIGHT things involving school, to learn in general, and God.
DeleteGood answer and I definately agree with you
DeleteI definitely agree with this!
DeleteBefore reading the article I went through the comments and saw almost everybody if not everybody's comment was based around zoning off and ideas like that. So I went into reading the article thinking that's what it was all about. When I read it I noticed that's nearly like 1/10 of the articles main point to get across. I do understand that teens do zone off many times throughout the day but the purpose of the article was to get more than that out. Humans barely use their brains because we don't think. We think about what is needed and that's all. If we thought all the time to solve problems then their would be alot more Einsteins. We get rapped around schoolwork, sports, relationships that we end up not problem solving and critical thinking. I feel like #6 and #7 are things we need to fix first if we want to have this amount of control over our minds. #6 mentions how we automatically put out opinions over others without out taking their opinions and thinking about the details. Because of our selfishness we don't care of others opinions even if we act like it. And #7 instead of putting others ideas off because they aren't ours is plain out idiotic although we all do it. If we saw everyone's point of view in their thinking we would understand but we don't know their circumstances so we just need to accept it and state your opinions without getting defensive of a disagreement.
ReplyDeleteI think you make a very good point and I agree with you about getting rapped up in school work and sports etc. I often do that my self and i no other teens do also.
DeleteI think that you right about #6. I know I struggle with this problem. I feel like whatever I think others should think too. But sometimes I'm wrong leading to my own embarrassment. I know that if someone challenged my opinion I wouldn't even let them explain their reasoning before I got defensive. I was challenged by your comment. Thanks for your insight.
DeleteYou are right about how we get wrapped up in a lot of unnecessary things. To add to your comment number 9 also talks about not getting wrapped up in what others think about us and making sure that we are "accepted" by people, and how we need to think on our own.
Deleteyou mentioned a very good point in number six. So many times we just automatically assume we're right and never even consider the possibility that someone else's opinion could be more effective and/or is the right thing to do.
DeleteThis article was very interesting but I have never met people who actually keep a interaction journal. Also this article talked about zoning of into space, but i kind of did that while reading a article about how to prevent that so I should probably work on this.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree with you Jessica I found myself spacing out a lot while reading this article. Definitely something I think everyone could work on.
DeleteVery true, I am glad I am not the only one strugiling with this issue.
DeleteI really enjoyed this article. It made so many great points about how we don't think enough about how we can change. Everyday we all make mistakes, but rarely do we ever think at the end of the day how we could improve in that area of our lives. I myself struggle with this, and the article made me realize that I wasn't making the most of everyday God gives me. God calls us to glorify Him and to be a light, and by not changing the mistakes we make, we aren't doing what he commands. This article really opened my eyes, and God showed me that I was being prideful and not trying hard enough to not make the same mistakes over and over again.

DeleteYou make a really good point! Sometimes we see what we're doing wrong in our thinking (sometimes we don't, though), but we don't know what to do change how we deal with situations in our minds. It's so easy to just think it will change over time by itself, but it won't. We have to work to change.
DeleteI thought this article was helpful because it gave advice on how to get a hold of your feelings or emotions. I also thought it was interesting on how they gave advise about taking one of your own characteristics and working on one each month. I thought it would be a good idea to challenge myself.
ReplyDeleteI agree completely. If we kept our emotions under control better, life would be a lot easier and we wouldn't make foolish decisions.
DeleteThat is so true. Just think about how much time we waste ruining friendships with silly emotions and then trying to redeem them. If we took the time to make our friendships stronger instead of tearing them apart, how much closer would we as people be?
DeleteI agree that most everyone, especially me, needs to get a grip on emotions, and learn how to control them so we can better handle issues.
DeleteThis article was very eye opening just thinking about how much time I spend not thinking about anything. Definitely something I know I need work on.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree, I think that we all spend a whole lot of time thinking about a whole lot of nothing. It's something that everyone can work on.
DeleteI totally agree. I think people waste a lot of time not really thinking. Me being one of them.
Deletethis article has a very large level of truth to it. it made me think about how I reacted and made me realize that I have things I need to work on such as not reacting with anger and annoyance if I don't want something or not to constantly waste time doing things that don't help and could potentially hinder the thoughtful processes I have already.
ReplyDeleteIn our society we don't spend a lot of time thinking, we just do and say with out thinking about what we are doing and saying. This article, while talking about how we should think ,and how we should be thinking positively, also talked about self discipline. I saw, while reading the article, that the main theme was how we need to discipline ourselves and what is going through our mind and what we do with our time. As followers of Crist we need to think positively, but also discipline our mind on what we are thinking. As I read some of the comments, and I saw that a some people said that they were spacing of. In this case we can train our mind to stay focused on what we are doing and not start to think about other things.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about needing to think positively. It's so important that we are optimistic because as Christians, we are representatives of Christ, and while thinking positive thoughts we are glorifying God.
DeleteI also agree that every thought in our heads whether positive or negative will effect our character. If our character is effected negatively than that puts a poor representation of through us to others who are not believes of Christ. This is why it is important that think about what we say. I also think that the plan our time wisely is important because if we waste our time we our wasting the time God has given to us for His plan.
DeleteYou make a really good point about disciplining our minds. Both our character and our actions are affected by our thoughts, and our character and actions should show that we love God and want to glorify Him. People look to us as Christians to see how we react to situations. Like Mr.Pruner said the other week, we should have an eternal mindset. Sometimes, our reactions to problems can push people away from God, which could cause them to never accept salvation and never make it to Heaven. If we have an eternal mindset, think positive thoughts, and discipline our minds, we can make good choices that lead people to God.
DeleteI never realized how we don't work as well as we should. The facts make sense in the fact that there are many ways that we can learn more and we don't. Man's desire is to not think about working, benefiting and bring ourselves and others down. It has helped me realize that I need to work better in these areas.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your points. Man's desire is to please himself. I think we could all benefit from working in the areas you have said.
DeleteI agree with the article. I tend to space out listening to music a lot. We tend to be lazy quite a bit. Colossians 3:23-24 says to do your work heartily for God. That includes thinking and focusing on what applies. We need to work hard and do our best in all that we do.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree David. We need to work harder at focusing. And focusing our heart and mind on the Lord
DeleteYeah. I do the exact same thing. I value hard work, and i don't want to be hypocritical.

ReplyDeleteI agree with this article. Many people don't realize that they are not thinking and considering problems and situations critically. They are just doing life like normal and don't consider whether or not what they are thinking is helpful to them and will encourage their mind to think discerningly. This article has shown me what I need to change in order to be a person who really considers what they do and think.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Elly. Most people go throughout the day without thinking about what they did right or what they need to change for the next day, week, and even year.
DeleteI think this artical is vary use full. I find myself thinking thatsomething is so unfare and I should start asking myself, does it realy matter? , and why is it unfare?
ReplyDeleteI feel like me and many others tend to get upset over the little things, and not seeing the big picture.I see that I need to analyze my emotions saying "Why do I think that?" and "What effect does thinking that have on me?"
ReplyDeleteYes I agree and we all should just think more before we do stuff especially like spacing out I do that a lot
ReplyDeleteI think that if we consider our actions and emotions every day, we would be a better person
ReplyDeleteVery good comment Max. I think you used a Biblical perspective
DeleteI agree and if we didn't zone out every 10 minutes think about how much more we could get done

ReplyDeleteAfter reading this article, I think the auther is very right. To me it seemed very complicated, like something I might say....."really?"....to. Overall I think it was a very good article.
ReplyDeleteI thought this article was very interesting. After reading it a few times as I bet a lot of us did to really get it because of zoning out. The wasting time part especially made me think. Everybody wastes time sometime,s. Whether its sleeping, watching tv, and many other things. If we used this time to share Gods love we would not only not be wasting time but we would be building up treasures in heaven.
ReplyDeleteYa, I agree. I tend to zone out a lot.
DeleteI agree with you Cole, I like what you said about building treasures in heaven
DeleteI liked this article because it somewhat explained the reasons for why people are so immature in the things he does. I also liked how it explained how we zone out a lot. I also zoned out while typing this. Overall, it is a very well written article.
ReplyDeleteYa I need to work on not zoning out but keeping focused on the matter at hand even though it is hard at the end of the school day
DeleteI really enjoyed reading this article. It shows how much we don't use our reading and comprehension skills in our everyday life. We should be thinking about what we did wrong and right throughout the day. It shows what steps we can take into becoming a good reading and thinker and how we should interact w/ our surroundings more. Instead of zoning out, playing on our cell phones 24/7, or going through the TV channels to actually find something worthwhile to watch. We do these things because we don't feel like interacting with our sibling, friends, or our surroundings. We need to become more aware of what is happening around.
ReplyDeleteOverall, I think this was a good article. An article that has many things we need to learn to do and change in our lives.
I agree that we need to become more aware of what is happening
DeleteI liked this article a lot. it challenged me in lots of different ways. like with the spacing off thing I catch myself doing that a lot, even during this article. I start to wonder how much time I've wasted on just spacing off and how much I've missed!!! its crazy.
ReplyDeleteThis article brought up some interesting points and showed me a new way of looking at things. I found a lot of truth in the statement that sometimes we ask ourselves questions about our day,but don't give ourselves enough time to answer them. I liked strategy 6, about correcting yourself when you are in the wrong. Sometimes I think through my day and see what I did wrong, but then I don't motivate myself to fix those things or apoligize to people. I am definitely going to work on using these 9 strategies in my everyday life.
ReplyDeleteAmen
DeleteThis article was very well written. It challenged me to actually use that "wasted" time on something productive. Doing so might just help me have more study time or a chance to do something that will help me in the future.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Isaac. We actually might get something done if we didn't zone off all the time.
ReplyDeleteI think that we should try to strive for improvement in our everyday lives. We should do the work required for improvement.
ReplyDeleteI thought this article was very good. The part that challenged me was where it talked about wasting time. I think we need to constantly check ourselves to see if we are wasting time or not.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree Matt. Sometimes we don't even realize how much time we are wasting or have wasted because we get so consumed in our day to day tasks.
DeleteThe article was good..and the part how we need to deal with our ego is something that we all have to do if we want to do good in life.
ReplyDeleteI thought that this article was very interesting. I really made me think about how much time i waste when i could be using my time wisely.
ReplyDeleteThis article makes a lot of sense. We spend to much of our time being brain-dead. That means playing video games, texting, and watching t.v. takes up most of our "thinking time." We also zone off a ton. When someone is speaking to us we tend to look away and think about something else. I notice I do this a lot as well. If we just make thinking a force of habit, we won't even realize when we do it!
ReplyDeleteI really like how the article flows and makes sense
ReplyDeleteI think that we have the ability to become critical thinkers but often we just don't want to challenge our minds. Our minds have a greater capacity than we know but sometimes we become so brain dead because we don't use them to their fullest. Critical thinking takes a lot of discipline and practice.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you. We all have the ability, it's just comes down to the fact that we have to want to challenge our minds and do the work required.
DeleteI get what the article is saying when it says that we aren't what we could be for example I love ASL but I don't really like English for example if I have to sign somthing I will do it anytime but if I am supposed to write and or read somthing I complain and just do it to get it done and give my minimal work. So basically what it's saying is that instead of just doing what we want we should do everything with our best attitude.
ReplyDeleteThis article was enlightening. We go through our day to day lives missing so many opportunities to better ourselves in that it can be as simple as re-adjusting how you view things or managing our time more efficiently. We spend so much time zoning out when just trying harder to focus can be extremely beneficial.
ReplyDeleteI agree, especially in our generation because of all the technology we have a harder time focusing.
DeleteThis article was very accurate. They are right in saying that today's society is not very advanced in our problem solving and thinking. We often are very lazy in our answers by using the minimum word usage possible and solving problems in the easy "hear and now" solution rather than what will be best long term. The article offers many praticle, useful stragities that could help improve our thinking. If we all do our part in challenging ourselves to get a little better at thinking critically, our society would improve greatly as a whole.
ReplyDeleteI really liked this "Critical Thinking in Everyday life" article because it helped to better understand how to go about thinking and its strategies. First off, I didn't even know there was different stages in mastering thinking so that is one thing I learned. The strategy I found most true and interesting was number seven that stated "Redefine the way you see things". I liked this strategy most because I liked how you could Change something from being a negative to a positive by changing your thinking. I think I will try to train myself to do that more often. Over all I thought Paul, R. & Elder, L. did a great job in explaining the strategies and stages of thinking and I will try to work on these 9 strategy.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with you about the strategy concept
DeleteI loved the excerpt from the nursery rhyme in strategy 7 (“For every problem under the sun, there is a solution or there is none. If there be one, think til you find it. If there be none, then never mind it.”) and it really made a lot of sense to me. I especially liked strategy 1 when it talks about wasting time and zoning out, and while I was reading, I realized that I was zoning out! The article really opens up your eyes and it reveals to you how you spend your free time outside of school.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the is thoughtful and is a great encouraged that tells us we are smarter than we think and we need to be thoughtful with our time and strategize
ReplyDeleteYes, we are a lot smarter than we think we are just because we put ourselves down so much.
DeleteThis article helped me see how I need to better plan my time. And how God cares about how we manage my time. Also it was interesting how we need to sharpen our focus on what is important
ReplyDeleteThis article is very interesting. It shows that we as people really are lazy. We should step up our game in what we think, who we are, and how we think. I completely agree with thou article and what it had to say.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you! We set our goals and standards too low. We people can do so much more than we do and we do need to step it up.
DeleteYeah, doing the stuff this article suggested, would make us so much more intelligent.
DeleteThis article was very interesting. It reminded me of how I really don't take in the problems of the world, but only focus on my problem in the moment. My problems usually don't even matter compared to how many other more serious problems there are in the world. The article also reminded me of all the free time I really do have. Sometimes I feel like I have no time to spare, but that really isn't true. If everyone took just one minute to think about an important issue of our world, we would have a better place to live.
ReplyDeleteI agree entirely. Instead of ignoring our mistakes we should confront them and learn from them. Evaluating our mistakes can save us time in the future, and changing how we approach some situations can save us grief.
ReplyDeleteThis article shows that everybody struggles with critical thinking, but it also gives you hope that you can fix your critical thinking.
ReplyDeletei definitely agree. especially in our generation, with all the technology kids have a harder time focusing and doing critical thinking problems
DeleteI appreciated how real this article was, it didn't candy coat what we do and make it
ReplyDeletesound okay. I don't think this article was written from a Christian point of view. Nonetheless, I think some of the things that were written about were very good, Christian, morals and teachings; such as what the article said about reshaping our character and dealing with our ego. I think that I am probably the unreflective thinker, but what they said about reshaping our character was really good I was having trouble with admitting to being wrong just tonight! This was a well-written article. I "zoned out" while reading it, as many of you mentioned. I agree with what troy said though, that zoning out isn't what the article was all about.
This says I am Vicki, but this is actually Kelly, I am using my mom's account.
DeleteI found the part about using your time wisely very interesting because that's an area I struggle in. This whole article was written in a very relateble way, showing you specfic areas where I need to improve.
ReplyDeleteIndeed Barbara
DeleteI'd have to agree with this article because most people only challenge their brains and their thinking like once a day. If we sit down for about 30 minutes a day by ourself and just put our thinking and our concepts to the test, we will be smarter and quicker in everyday life.
ReplyDeletei do agree on this article on how people zone out a lot and we would be a lot smarter if we didnt zone out as much. i admit i catch my self zoning a a little too. i think its something people need to work on
ReplyDeleteI learned a lot from this article, we should be thinking more about our day instead of zoning out and wasting our time.
ReplyDeleteLots of people including myself sometimes think math is boring but now that I have been at Faith it has been fun!!
ReplyDelete
